Welcome to The Old Rectory

A Haven in the Hills

Our Tale

The Old Rectory is believed to date back to the 17th century.  So, in 2021 when the refurbishment began, care was taken to preserve the architecture and characteristics of the building.  Today The Old Rectory has a bold beauty, fusing style and daring colours to encapsulate the outstanding natural beauty of the environment.

The furnishings bring together old and new with influences from across the globe.  Modern efficiencies make for an easy stay, while the fabrics, textures and hues, breathe tranquility.

The Old Rectory is ideal for family holidays, group getaways, sporting parties and corporate team building events.  We are dog friendly and welcome up to a maximum of two medium sized dogs.

The Kirkstyle Inn and Sportsman’s Rest

The Kirkstyle, our pub and restaurant, is literally next door.  It is recognised for its beautiful food and great selection of beers and wines.  It is very popular with locals and visitors to the area.  We recommend booking a table, which you can do by visiting the website and clicking the ‘Book a Table’ button in the top right-hand corner of the page.

Please note: the kitchen is open for dinner on Wednesday and for lunch and dinner Thursday to Sunday. The kitchen is closed on Monday and Tuesday.  Please see our opening times here.

Calling all Golfers!
Don’t miss the chance to play Close House Championship Golf Course when you stay at The Old Rectory.

A beautifully presented, spacious house for a party of seven with 2 dogs. Welcome basket of local supplies, milk, fresh eggs and delicious sourdough bread cooked morning of arrival in pub kitchen next door. Highly recommend gastro pub.. we had a superb Sunday lunch there. Lots of fabulous walks locally and a short drive away. Lovely scented Cumbrian toiletries throughout the many bathrooms/en-suites and the beds were sooo comfy. Evenings spent playing many games at the dining table. We all definitely want to return to this stylish, charming property.

What can I say about our stay at the Old Rectory that probably hasnt been covered before? Well, lets just say that the end-to-end experience from research to booking and throughout our stay has been amazing. We are an original family of 4 from the Isle Of Man (children in 50s and parents in 80s) who roadtrip in the UK annually to get the \'olds off the rock\'. We try and go somewhere different geographically every year and although we\'d been to Cumbria and Yorkshire, Northumberland was a new one for us. I made contact with Jenna from the rectory…

The Old Rectory was an absolutely delightful place to spend the week! The house itself is beautifully furnished and decorated, with tasteful original artworks throughout. Every room is incredibly spacious, making it perfect for accommodating multiple families with plenty of room to spare. We loved the convenience of its association with the restaurant next door; they were always on hand to promptly deal with any issues. The location is truly special. We enjoyed watching lambs bouncing in the fields and baby rabbits munching on grass. There are so many fantastic walking opportunities, and I even saw a hare for the…

We had a wonderful time in the Old Rectory, it’s a gorgeous building, very tastefully designed and even more spacious than shown in the pictures. Everything you could think of has been considered in this holiday rental and we will definitely be back! The Kirkstyle Inn next door is also fantastic & the food and drink there certainly delivers and then some! The team we dealt with during our stay were incredible, especially Jenna & Nick, they were so accommodating and on hand to help with any and all enquiries - they really made our stay special, many thanks James

The Old Rectory provided us with a wonderful break for a few days. The attention to detail and the thoughtful welcome basket made our time with family a very special one! The Kirkstyle Inn next door gave us access to the most incredible food and friendly service. Sunday lunch was epic! The dogs had a blast too with so many great walks right on the doorstep. Can’t wait to return!
